The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They create division, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their unions for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments suggested the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
