An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the death of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a distant coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a break. The liner left without her and came back after some time after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

An extensive search operation discovered her body the next day.

Officials are investigating the event, alongside police and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator announced that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".
