Outrage as Renowned South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old media personality was approached by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before running away.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a premises close to the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site managing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, it was reported.
"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement confirmed.
CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.
