Music Legend Barry Manilow to Undergo an Operation for Lung Cancer.

Barry Manilow announced that he was diagnosed with lung cancer and is set to have a surgical procedure.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The 82-year-old singer, whose parade of high-spirited hits from "Copacabana" cemented his status as one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have a procedure to remove part of his lung in an effort to combat the condition, which is at an early phase.

“As many of you know, I recently endured six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Despite the fact that I was over the bronchitis and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor requested an MRI just to make sure that there were no issues.

“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that must be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a great doctor) that it was caught so early.”

Rescheduled Shows

He has delayed a number of forthcoming concerts, but stated he would be on stage again by Valentine’s Day for his enduring engagement at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.

He added: “The physicians do not believe it has metastasized and I’m undergoing further tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. No chemotherapy. No radiotherapy. Just home remedies and I Love Lucy reruns.

“I’m looking forward to until I rejoin my second home for our Vegas run for our February love-themed shows.”

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the spotlight and revealed he is gay in 2017, after wedding his partner of many years, Garry Kief confidentially in 2014.

The pair were in a clandestine partnership for over 35 years. In 2023, Manilow reflected on how vital his husband had been to him during his explosion in popularity in the 1970s.

“When my fame skyrocketed, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, going back to an lonesome hotel suite, you can get into a lot of trouble if you, you know, you’re on your own repeatedly,” he said.

“But I met Garry right around when it was taking off. And I was spared from having to go back to those lonesome rooms. I had somebody to be vulnerable with or to celebrate with.

“I desire that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was pretty lonely until I met Garry. And then it was a shared adventure.”
