Former Doctor Accused of Assault Allegations Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician stands accused of committing assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.
The Grave Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
One senior CPS official stated, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
The charges come after what police called a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors said the forty-five charges include:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
