Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated anger after former President Donald Trump accused a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be detained and penalized "through capital punishment" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Recording That Provoked the Debate

The clip, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic lawmakers who formerly served in defense or security roles.

"As we did, you all made an vow to protect and uphold this national charter," the officials affirmed in the 90-second video. "And right now, the threats to our constitution are not only from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are unambiguous, you can reject improper directives, you can reject illegal orders, you have to refuse improper directives. No one has to execute commands that contravene the statutes or our national charter."

The Former President's Incensed Reply

The video message seemed to provoke a heated reaction from the former president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he declared: "This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their comments cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials Answer

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, House Democratic leader published a unified announcement condemning the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no role in the United States," they stated. "Elected officials who participated in the video all served our country with tremendous patriotism and distinction. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's offensive and dangerous threats of violence against elected officials, and urge GOP representatives to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in communication with protective services "to guarantee the security of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these radical online messages and withdraw his aggressive language before he leads to violence," the declaration stated.

Officials' Firm Answer

The representatives who participated in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who value this country and swore an oath to defend and defend the national charter of the United States," they declared. "That oath is permanent, and we plan to keep it. No threat, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that sacred responsibility."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to reiterate the statutes," they continued. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "Every American must join forces and denounce the former president's calls for our death and ideological conflict. This is a moment for principled stance."

More Political Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's remarks and posted on digital platforms: "It's important to understand: the former president is calling for the execution of public representatives."

He added: "This is an direct THREAT. All senators, every Representative, all citizens – regardless of party – should censure this right away and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "sedition", describing the video as "extremely improper", stating: "This represents very dangerous, you have important representatives of Congress telling soldiers to defy commands, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Conservative representative also according to sources stated to journalists that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "defining the crime of sedition" but that "attorneys have to analyze the terminology and establish all that."

Administration Statement

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a journalist, "Would the president want to kill members of Congress?", the White House press secretary responded: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the president is reacting to," the representative said. "We see sitting members of the American legislature who worked together to organize a digital communication to members of the US military, to current military personnel advising them to defy the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She said: "The integrity of our defense system rests on the hierarchy, and if that structure is compromised, it can cause people getting killed, it can cause confusion, and precisely what these elected officials ... are fundamentally promoting."
