Both Deceased Students Identified in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Manhunt for Killer.

Two students who died in the weekend's tragic incident at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant persisted following the release by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also expressed condolences on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine more persons were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our community”.

The assailant began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a police source informed the news agency.

Police that raided the lodging seized a pair of pistols and magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one pupil was released from the hospital, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Additional Memorials

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US college with about 7,300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to data. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
